APICS announced Sunday that it will stop using a 60-year-old acronym for its name and become the Association for Supply Chain Management by early 2019.
The $27 million-revenue APICS is based in Chicago. The organization will roll out its new ASCM designation in coming months. It will continue to provide APICS-branded certifications and educational programs as well as new products and services.
"ASCM is the leader for end-to-end supply chain management, bringing corporations and professionals the latest ideas and proven best practices to help transform supply chains," APICS CEO Abe Eshkenazi said. "We want to empower both the people who elevate supply chains and the companies who utilize them."
APICS launched in 1957 as the American Production and Inventory Control Society. The group later shortened its named to just its initials. Today it has more than 45,000 members, according to its website.
ASCM has rolled out a new website at ASCM.org.
